A friend took my car without my knowledge and he got arrested and they impounded my car for 30 days. Is he responsible for the impound fees? (getting the car out) and if he doesn't pay can I sue him for the amount. That I paid? Also, can I rent a vehicle while mine is impounded and sue him for that amount?

Sue him for everything you can and the Judge will determine what you can recover and what you can't.
Get your car out the very day you are able so they don't add more days charges.
Suing and actually getting the money can be two different things if he doesn't work or works under the table.

There is one problem with this scenario. If you sue him for taking your car without permission he might be charged with grand theft auto.

Other then that you have the right to sue for costs you had to incur because of his negligence and you should win. Then you will have the problem of collecting.

A friend comes over and decides to fix something in the house only he doesn't fix it but makes it worse. Was painting bathroom and messed it up and now there are no walls. Need to call someone to put up drywall. Can I take him to court for the all the projects he started but didn't finish and now its really going to cost me to get it done right?

Yes thank you it does help Then I would be refunded for my expense of renting another car? He also has started to fix things but never finishes it. Faucet repair left me with no sink faucet and no drainpipe no shower handles tore ceiling panel offand now left with big hole in ceiling, etc. Can I ask for what it cost me to hire a professional to fix these items?

If you want to lump this all together, you can. What costs you can recover will be up to the judge. But again, whetyher you win a judgement you still have to collect. T=does this person have any assets you can collect from?

Yeah don't sue for him having the car just all the expenses you incurred from it being impounded.

If you just had your friend fix this stuff for you gratis, then I doubt you can sue him to repair his damage.

A couple of thoughts.
1. Don't miss the point that Scott raised. If your "friend" has no assets, winning a law suit will not do you any good. Collecting is different from winning.
2. Did you report that he took the car without permission? It's strange to me that they would impound a car that is registered to you unless they consider you to be responsible. Is there something else going one here that you haven't told us about?
3. You may need to rent a car to get around, but I wouldn't count on recovering the money unless your friend has assets that you can attach - again the collection thing.
4. If this really is a friend who has assets, why won't he make it right and cover your legit expenses (with friends like this, you need to start spending time with some of your closest enemies).
5. On the repair thing, I don't think you have a case. A person who you agree to have attempt repairs in your home for free does not become liable to hire a professional to complete the job.
6. My recommendation: If he has assets that you feel you can collect from, he won't pay up on his own, and you feel that your friendship is over anyway, by all means sue. But, if as a number of us suspect that collection will be a problem for you, keep the costs as low as you can, try to get the car back early if you can, and try to get him to reimburse you for all, or as much of the expenses as you can because it's the right thing to do. In this case don't tell him that you are not going to sue - at that point his problem is over. Let him worry that you may while negotiating from the perspective that he caused the expenses to be incurred, therefore he should reimburse you for the legitimate costs.

They will impound a car because they arrested the driver especially if it is over drugs or drinking and driving.
What is strange to me is the 30 day thing. I hope they heard right and not leaving it there for 30 days thinking that was what was meant.
If it was impounded because they reported it stolen I really can not see the 30 day thing.

He volunteers to do these things. Most off the time I'm at work and when I come home I find him doing these things.

So take their key away, if they are just helping you for free and you let them, sounds like it is more your problem since you keep letting them.

Yes normally on a impound you can get it out right away if you pay the fee, if you leave it over 30 they normally sell it.

I would go to the impound and ask about getting it out.

Sounds to me like you need to drop this friend like a bad habit.

It's a law here if you have no license or if it is suspended, they will inpound for 30 days.Right at present he has no assests, but his Mother passed away and he gets 1/3 of her estate I just don't know when. Also, I was told to file a Wri of Something I forgot where they make him pay

I've tried to get it out but Sheriffs says no, 30 days

You need to sue him and when he inherits it would be taken from that if he hasn't paid by then.

And he does these repairs, starts them when I am not home or asleep.

You need to change the locks and get him for trespassing if it continues.
He needs to see you are serious that you aren't putting up with his mess any more.
If you sue him he might get the idea.
