    Child Support
I want to get married. The guy I want to marry has a son. Will I be forced to pay child support after we marry?

As far as I know, yes you will be.

I would hope though, that you have an option as to if you want to combine your income with your husband. I know I would keep all my finances separate in that situation.

I can't say for everywhere, but here it is NO. Only my income and my ex husband's income counts when calculating child support. With my step children only my husband and his ex-wife's income is calculated for child support.

Does my wife have too pay ? - Yahoo! Answers
Depending on the state YES! My ex husband married his other baby mama in the state of New Jersey. Because she married a lazy jackass and she was the one with the college degree they garnished her wages but ONLY because he never worked. Check your local state child support laws but your wife should be fine as long as you are paying your child support. Personally I thought it was hilarious that they took her money to pay my child support... it teaches these chickenhead women not to marry these lowlifes, which I am sure you are not. Good luck.

Ok - the actual answer is that in the United States, a step parent cannot be held liable for support of a step child. However, some states allow the step parent's income to be used to calculate the amount a biological parent is required to pay.

BUT - if the bio-parent does not pay, the step parent's wages cannot be garnished, property solely owned by the step parent cannot be attached and legal action cannot be brought against him or her.

    Joint assets can be taken/leined.
