    Confused in Alaska
My husband would like to adopt my child. Her father has never been in her life and hasnet called in over 7 years. We recive child support via wage garnishment. I was wondering if iwas able to file for child abandonmenet and how I would go about it.?

You need to ASK the biological father to relinquish rights.

The fact that he is paying child support means that it's going to be VERY tough to get an abandonment charge going.

    You need a lawyer.

Sorry but abandonment is not something you could "file" for even if it was applicable. You would file for a termination of parental rights and use abandonment as grounds.

But as long as he pays support its not abandonment.

However, since an adoption would end the need for support, the father may be willing to relinquish. So why not contact the father and ask. Or better yet, hire an attorney (you will need one to file the papers anyway) and let them take care of it.
