I have a second home that gets its water from the lake that we pump the water from. There is a gauge on the pump and I think is has changed from years past. What should it read? Now the pump shuts off at approx. 40 psi. I don't think it went that high in the past. Thanks for you help.

The average house pressure's 45 PSI with a low of 40 and a high limit of 70. Regards, tom

Normally water pressure for residential homes should be between 40 and 60 psi. Since you are pumping from a lake, 40 should be fine. You also have to ask yourself is the pressure when taking a shower enough for you? This is nornally the determining factor.

This is a camp. No shower. BUT, I was really worried more about blowing apart the joints in the lines under the camp. Seems like the pressure is low enough so that won't happen.
