I say that, because your potential employer is going to, FIRST and FOREMOST, want to know if and how you're going to HELP HIM. If you can convince him that YOU will HELP him, your record won't hurt as much...

But, if you go in asking HIM to help YOU, you're not going to get a job. Employers AREN'T social agency's. They're not going to hire you because they're good hearted. They're going to hire you because they NEED you.
