    Back Surgery?
I am 19 years old and suffering from severe scoliosis. It was first noticed when I was in the 8th grade. I wore a back brace for a few years, but it didn't really help all that well. My spine has two curves: A 40 degree curve in my lower spine and a 50 degree curve in my upper spine. My back hurts literally 24/7 and it just keeps getting worse. Only for temporary relief, I am constantly having to twist and bend, etc. just to get my back to crack. I also keep having sharp chest pains and difficulty breathing at times. Scoliosis runs in my family, but my Mother has told me that no one in our family had it as bad at this age. It is quite noticeable and I am very self-conscious about it. I can't do a lot of things that most people my age do on a regular basis. Even standing at my register at work for a couple hours forces me to have to lay in bed for the rest of the night with a back massager. Should I consider back surgery or is it too dangerous? I'm just not sure:confused:

I really think surgery could give you a lot of relief. Good luck!

You definitely need to consult with a good orthopaedic surgeon for the correct diagnosis for your condition. Back surgery is not for everyone though and can cause more problems than it cures in some people. I knew of an older lady who had scoliosis but not as bad as you have. She had an operation where they put titaniam rods next to her spine. It was a major operation and it took her many months to recover. She cannot bend properly at her waist like she could before the operation and bend side to side.

Your condition will get worse the older you get from what I've read about this condition. There could be other remedies out there for you being you are young. Let's hope so!
