    Recrystallisation benzoic acid.

It can often be difficult to pick a solvent for recrystallization. You want something that has a high solubility for benzoic acid when it's hot, but not when it's cold. Benzoic acid is a carboxylic acid. Polar solvents like water and possibly some alcohols will dissolve it. Water is probably the solvent of choice. You could also try aromatic solvents like benzene and toluene, but most likely Benzoic acid will dissolve in these solvents when both hot and cold.
