The Branch-Chapter of the Association is celebrating its 25th Anniversary in June. They are a provincial branch of a much larger national association in Canada.
Our focus is preserving the historical significance of our ancestors heritage when they came to Canada after the Revolutionary War in 1783.

The branches/chapters are the "stewards" of this part of Canadian history.:)

Ok - I'm going to run with the idea in your last statement... that branches and chapters are stewards of your history.

I'm in the DAR - Daughters of the American Revolution (my grandmother was actually the Chaplain General - it's in my blood!) and history is very important to me... and its preservation for future generations.

What about making a speech on that very topic... answering the question, "What is a steward? What does it mean to be a steward of history?"

Just think... what would the world be like without history? How could we learn about the past if there were no stewards to record it? How could we teach our children how to act if we didn't have the examples of countless generations to backup what we're saying?

Being a steward of history - a caretaker of the very fabric of time - is an important and privileged task.

Yes, we are the "caretakers" of our historical heritage. As well, we are the stewards of their stories not only of the past events which brought them to this great nation, but also the stewards of their physical remnants and personal possessions they brought with them from their past life in the American Colonies.
We honour all of them across this nation and are proud of keeping their legacy and original properties maintained for all to enjoy.
Many of the members within the Association are the 4th, 5th 6th and 7th generation, direct descendants of these heroic people.. We are truly privileged to carry this Torch.

... I like you suggestion of the topic. As well as being a member of this Association I am also in the process of proving my lineage to a SAR; Wow both sides well represented by my family. Of, course, as we know, this was much the case for many families during this historical period.

SAR, huh? Very cool! I love history associations.

The best way to write a speech is not to. If you think of a great sentence or paragraph, write it down or just memorise it. Then go there and speak off the top of your head. It sounds better if you are ad-hoc about it, and it allows for imporvisation if a chance for a joke comes along etc. I used this method a few years ago when I wrote a piece on some castles. The exam board gave me 100%, and I still remember everything.
