CI waste lines no hub joints: Is it within the npc to run under ground?

Plumbing code no hub coupling joints:

Is it within code to use this under ground? I know that in the older days oakum with lead joints were used. Thanks.

I don't know how many rough-ins I've done using No-Hub pipe and fittings back in the 80's.
Passed then, should pass now. Good luck, Tom

Are you looking to use rubber adapter clamps? If so, then, yes they are allowed underground. Lead and okum are pretty much a thing of the past, hence the rubber boots.

I sure hope the OP was talking about No-Hub Bands, (see image) instead of
rubber boots. I would never advise anyone, anytime to use neoprene couplings underground and for that matter for anything else but repair. (sorry Dad!)
The reason is they aren't ridged and tend to sag at the joint as the weight of the cover bears down. These "sags" can work themselves in to traps in time and then the problems start. Metal bands give the joint a coupling that's ridged. Rubber boots are dandy for a repair job where you can tighten the clamps if a leak develops but I wouldn't install them anywhere in a wall or where they're covered up. Good luck, Tom

No-Hub Cast Iron with Shielded couplings : It is not used as much as some years back - but OK to install underground. Today, most of the piping is done with ABS or PVC.
