Hi everyone I have been going out with this girl for 8 months she wants to take a break. But the thing is she wants us to still be friends and hang out while were on our break! I don't get it at all please help me out!

Why does she want to take a break? You need to establish why she feels this way then after you find out, give her space and both clear your heads of any emotional dust.

It is basically a break up. She wants to go back to being friends. She is using you to cushion her guilt for breaking up with you by suggesting friendship instead of cutting you out of her life for good. If it hurts too much to be her friend, tell her you can't do that and just disappear from her life. If you don't mind friendship, than there's no problem here.
