Hi, Im currently having a problem with my network latency.

I use a Linksys Cisco WRT110 Rangeplus Router

I have 4 computers on the network.

A Sony Vaoi Laptop running windows Vista - Wireless
An Acer Laptop running windows XP - Wireless
Myself running Windows XP - WIRED
And a Macbook Pro(Brand New) - Wireless

The problem comes whenever the Macbook connects to the network. When it connects avg ping times jump from 35-50ms to 1100+ ms.

It doesn't happen when any other computer is connected to the network(all other computers could be connected and be fine), only when the macbook is on the network does that latency get that high.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Well if they are all connected/used all at the sametime then you might let lagtime.
4 laptops on one router can be a bit much... have you tried getting a cisco access point and see if that helps with lag?

Has your providers server experienced issues?

Lagtime can be from an overload of users living in your area, bogging the providers server.


The lag can be a number of things, start from the possible cheapest fix by talking to your provider and their side.
Then focus only on your side of line if the providers side is good to go.

That's the thing, I can have all 3 other computers connected but the Macbook and its fine. As soon as the macbook connects the MS goes up to 1100+. Even when its ONLY the macbook connected it goes through the roof, and does not do that when any of the other 3 laptops connect.

Well if this happens when the mac is connect and only the mac then until I research this I don't know. Sorry, not into macs but I will help you find an answer, no worries mate we have others here who might know the answer just sit tight...

Are you connecting wireless or wired? If it is wired, try a different cable for your Macbook.

Without using a "network sniffer", it would be difficult to see why your Macbook is producing what is equivalent to a Denial of Service attack. Has it been checked for viruses, trojans and malware?

As far as load on your router, you should be able to connect 10 times the number of computers you have now and not have the type of latency you are experiencing.

I can ping one of our computers in our foreign locations and get 200ms round trip times.
