I have spent so much money remodeling my mobil home and now Im wanting to change the wood paneling at the cheapest best way I can. My husband doesn't recommend wallpaper says It won't last as long as painting an doesn't think I should do anything to the lines in the paneling. I do not want the lines there if I paint~any tips?

I have seen may folks try to eliminate the grooves in paneling so they could paint. I have yet to find anyone who was pleased with the result. The amount of work required to fill the grooves with wood putty, sanding and then painting just doesn't work out as a good move.

Bellsweety, I have eliminated grooves in paneling and it is hard work , you need some skills with drywall mud. First check all joints on the paneling to make sure they are tight because you will get cracks if they are loose. You need to purchase a bag of EASY SAND I suggest the 90 min. that's the time it takes to set up. Only mix about a 1/4 of a bag at a time in a bucket.[ follow instructions on bag] use a 5" or 6" sheetrock knife to fill in the grooves starting at the bottom and working upwards. Apply on a upward stroke and downward on the wipe off . You must do a good job on the wipe down or you will have a mess to sand, don't let the name Easy Sand fool you, sanding anything is not easy. Prime and paint. I always go another step and coat the entire wall with sheetrock mud to make it a even surface you can e-mail me at [email protected] if you have a problem. You can get Easy Sand at most hardware stores for about 10.00 a bag. I hope this helps with you project :D

Personally I like the lines in the paneling after its painted, breaks up the wall. If you want to take it a step further do and easy faux finish. I use a feather duster many times as supposed to a sponge Etc. Started doing it years ago on old claw foot tubs on rehaps.
