So I have a business that I want to start up, but the name is very close to our competitor, for example my competitors name is "mcdonald" could I still name my company "mcdon" without getting sued :confused: does anyone know?

If you use any name that could be considered a takeoff on your competitor, you'll be sued. I don't know if you'd LOSE, but they'll sue you.

In the example, above you'd be sued.
