I about a harbor breeze 3 speed 5-8 wire fan switch (33906) to replace my 5 wire switch that broke.

I having trouble figuring out the wiring. On the old switch it was wired as follows:
L - Black
1 - Grey
2 - Brown
3 - Purple
4 - Orange

The new switch only has numbers L - 3. However each number has 2 slots (upper (U) slot and lower (L) slot). I tried the following wiring. L/U - Black, 1/U - Grey, 2/U - Brown, 3/U Purple, 3/L Orange. However when I turned it on I only had two speeds (really slow and really fast).

Can anyone help figure out the correct wiring for the harbor breeze #33906?

I think you got the wrong switch.

The L, 1, 2, 3 usually does L-1, L-2 and L-1-2 and uses a 3 wire capacitor.

It could also be a L-1, L-2 and L-3 and use a 2 wire capacitor.

I'm at a loss. That site you linked two doesn't seem to match the switch I'm trying to replace, or at least I'm not seeing it correctly.

I went to Lowe's with the switch and the employee said the harbor breeze should work. I'm guessing he didn't know what he was talking about.

Here is the model info for the switch I'm trying to replace: JIN YOU E70469. If anyone can let me know if the switch I have will work, and if not what one I need to replace it with. I never realized it would be so difficult to find such a simple part.

It also has this part number on it: PB106

When I asked Lowe's and HD they told me we don't sell parts anymore for ceiling fans.

In one particular speed control method, the switch parallels various values of capacitances together. The highest value is the highest speed. Capacitors in parallel add, so a
4uf in parallel with a 4 uf is an 8 uf

Contact Litex, makers of Harbor Breeze, for the correct replacement switch. Their # is in our sticky.

I've never seen a 2 layer switch with #4 on it, it's always 2 layers of L-3.

Thanks for the reply. At this point I'm thinking of returning the switch I have, it doesn't look like it will work. I was going to go see if OSH had what I need. I guess a 5 wire switch isn't very common eh?

Get the correct switch from the fan manufacturer. Save yourself the headache.

The problem is I don't know who manufactured this fan. Is was already installed when I moved in and I can't find any model information on them.

Looks like a Regency, but I'll double check. Could also be an older Hampton Bay Cameron.

I was wrong, it's actually Ellington (Litex). Use the contact info for Harbor Breeze as Litez makes them too.

I have a similar problem... I have the same 5 wires to connect to the fan switch and I can't find a switch to work.
The fan has no identifying names or numbers to tell me who the manufacturer is so I can order the correct switch.
Can you help?

I have attached a two pictures of the fan and the capacitor to help.

I bought that switch at Home Depot and it is a 3 speed 4 wire switchand I wired it up and all I can get is 2 speeds slow and very fast.
The original switch says that it is a 4 speed 5 wire.

Ok, what's wrong with the original switch that was in the fan?

Whatever the problem Ruugs and Batz are having can you provide the information to purchase the 4 speed-5wire switch. Mine-the problem was
The chain pull (to change the speeds) broekn off. When I purchased and wired the 3 sped-4wire switch, I only had two speeds (really slow and really fast. The solution would be to get the 4 speed-5 wire switch but hard to find. Your help would be much appreciated.
