How do I connect a DVD player to a VHS tape recorder to copy the DVD to the tape? Thanks

Cable/antanna from wall to dvd/video input...
Cable from dvd/video out to vhs video input...
Cable from vhs/video out to t.v input

I asked earlier about copying a DVD to VHS tape, and was told to connect from audio/video out of DVD player to audio/video in on tape recorder. I tried that, but was not successful. I am using one unit a combination dvd/vhs unit. Does that make any difference? The DVD is copy protected, does that make any difference? Trying to make a personal back up because DVds get scratched so easily.

If its copy protected, you won't be able to make a copy.
