Two days ago my cat started limping on his left rear side. I've kept an eye on him and simplified his getting around so I could figure out what happened to him, now he is no longer able to lift his tail and will not allow anyone to rub his hips. Could he have had a stroke?

He could have been hit by a car. Does he go outside?

Please take him to a vet.

He's strictly indoor... He's 10 and never really been outside.

Yes, he has an appointment first thing but don't want to walk in the door cold... I have had him and his brother for their entire lives from the day they were born. Their mother was killed the evening they were born she had been a friend's cat and I was patiently waiting for a kitten and ended up with two of the three that survived. He is very special to me.

My cat Rasputin had a similar problem when he jumped off the top of the recliner and didn't land well for some reason. We took him to the vet who told us Rasputin had basically sprained his ankle. I hope your cat will be okay. Please post a note here after you get back from the vet.

The stary cat we rescued had the same thing. She couldn't walk and her tail hung limp.

She was too feral to catch so we unfortunately had to just leave her be for a while, she slowly improved to a point where she walks freely, her tail still hangs limp though.

Well they found nothing orthopedically wrong with him and after weighing him he has lost 5 lbs. in the past week and is dehydrated although he is constantly drinking, so they ran a battery of tests on him and recommended giving him wet food and putting more water bowls for the couple of days while waiting for the test results.

The results are in and all of them came back normal... They are starting him on antibiotics just in case he is fighting some inflammatory issue and they suspect also that it may be cancer. So we are going to see if the medication helps before moving into more diagnostics.

Did they check for diabetes? That can involve dragging back feet and tail plus thirst.

Yes, thye did a full Geriatric blood panel and urinalysis on him...

I hope the anibiotics work and he feels better soon. :)
