Aerated septic system pump runs constantly
I have had aerated septic system installed in Feb. 2002. The pump ,itself, runs [U]constantly. Is this a problem? The pump is no longer under warranty. There is no "stinky" smell to my system and it is removing clear water out the drain pipe into a waterway. I only have my stool (no toilet paper flushed, etc) & wash machine attached to the system. Should I have a professional look at the system? The man who emptied my tank 2 years ago said that I should just let it run until the pump quits and purchase a new one.

Note: I do service the system using chlorine tablets every 3 months. When the system was installed Bi-County health department stated that the system itself was large enough for a 4 person family. We only have 2 persons in our household.

The guy that said let it run was a fool. On top of that you should be pumping half of what it is rated for. You have a stuck float switch and it will eventually burn up the motor. Most pump motors relay on some fuilds surrounding them for cooling. Call a pro, this is not a DIY job

ballengerb1. Thanks for the answer. I did contact a professional. He looked at the "gray box" on my wall and determined that someone and switched the pump from Automatic to Manual.

Married? If so, do not try to determine who switched it. LOL

Yes married. I do remember "him" near the box last week. I never have "him" help with repairs, etc.. He is a city boy who can't build a fire in the woodstove without a "cheater" log (at $3 a pop) and even then the house is full of smoke for about 2 hours after he touches the stove... just stay away!! LOL
