From voluntary rehab to lock up for a year?
My 24 yr. old son is on probation for a DUI in NY starting January 2009. He has been in rehab for over 1 year. He was starting to slip, so he requested that he be put in a 28 day detox program. His P.O. has asked the facility to transfer him at the end of his 28 days to a one year in house program! Can she do this? His councelor said maybe they could get her down to 90 days... If he went in on his own accord, (and she only met him one time) and he is going to continue the treatments the P.O. said he must do, can she lock him up for a year? He would be better off going to jail for 4 months and then being off probation... anyone know about this? Should I be calling his lawyer? Meet with the councelor in one of those family meetings? Oh, and the facility is out of state! Can they do that? Why would ny send people to nj? Crazy. Thanks

If you feel that the PO is wrong with her assessment and recommendation, by all means contact an attorney.

You should be thanking the PO. The longer your son stays in treatment, the better his chances to stay clean. Why wouldn't you want the best most comprehensive treatment for your drug addict son? Do you want to watch him die a slow death or do you prefer he go quickly with an overdose? Do you want to buy him the drugs too?

Geez he was in rehab for a year and he still relapsed... what good do you think 3 months will do?
If a year in treatment didn't wotk, he needs more treatment, not less.

If you don't care ahbout him killing himself, then think about who he might kill with his car
