    What are these jobs?
Okay I am doing a report on Thurgood Marshall and I am on the part where I am talking about his presidential nominations. I have tried to look it up and I keep finding websites for a certain state I just want to know the definition of these.

Judge of the Second Court of Appeal

    Solicitor General

(and though I'm sure my class gets this one)

Associate Justice to the Supreme Court

I just want a definition of what these positions are, what their powers are, and what exactly it is that they do. Thank you so very much ahead of time.

So this is homework question? You do know that AMHD has a "no homework" policy, correct?

No I didn't. You can look at any question I have asked prior to this point I've only done it once before I believe. And it's not like I'm asking cause I'm lazy, it's cause I just can't find it anywhere and this is the only site I trust to give accurate answers or people who know where to look. If one of the MOD's feels it's inappropriate then they can delete it till then I'd like someone to please help me.

The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) is the highest judicial body in the United States, and leads the federal judiciary. It consists of the Chief Justice of the United States and eight Associate Justices, who are nominated by the President and confirmed with the "advice and consent" (majority vote) of the Senate. Once appointed, Justices effectively have life tenure, serving "during good Behaviour",[1] which terminates only upon death, resignation, retirement, or conviction on impeachment.[2] The Court meets in Washington, D.C. in the United States Supreme Court building. The Supreme Court is primarily an appellate court, but has original jurisdiction over a small range of cases.[3]

United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit (in case citations, 2d Cir.) is one of the thirteen United States Courts of Appeals. Its territory comprises the states of Connecticut, New York, and Vermont, and the court has appellate jurisdiction over the district courts in the following districts:

    District of Connecticut
    Eastern District of New York
    Northern District of New York
    Southern District of New York
    Western District of New York
    District of Vermont
The Second Circuit ordinarily has its clerk's office and hears oral arguments at the Thurgood Marshall U.S. Courthouse in Foley Square in lower Manhattan. Due to renovations at that building, during the summer of 2006 the court temporarily relocated to the Daniel Patrick Moynihan U.S. Courthouse in New York, New York across Pearl Street from the Marshall Courthouse. Some of the Court's offices, including the Office of Legal Affairs, have moved to the Woolworth Building for the duration of the renovations, which are expected to take several years.
