I lived in Iowa until August 2008 and then moved to Missouri. I was a remote employee (home office) until December 1 for a company based in Kansas. What state do I pay taxes in? The answer to your question is determined by state law, as to what state you would file in when you move between states during a tax year. You may need to file in all of them.

Most states have a "partial year resident form", used for this purpose.

As a general rule, which may differ depending upon the state,
1. Income while in Iowa, report to Iowa.
2. Income while driving to Kansas, report to Kansas. Attach letter from employer that from Jan 08 to Nov 08, you were not present in Kansas to earn the income.
2. Income after Sept 08 (when you moved to Missouri) report to Missouri. Claim credit for taxes paid to Kansas.
