I typically use Firefox but do, on occasion, use IE just to
a) check website displays,
b) login to something as a different account or user that I'm already logged into with Firefox,

I'm familiar with the features of IE7.

I don't really need new features, so I'd only upgrade to IE8 if
a) the security is significantly better (yes, I do run firewall and anti-malware software),
b) it uses less resources (haha, doubt that one),
c) or some other significantly good reason for the little use I will get out of it.

... so is there a wonderful reason to upgrade?

PS. If it helps to know, the machine I'm speaking of is:

Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz
1 GB Ram

b/ nope
c/ It's got Pr0n mode ;)

I think you forgot who you were replying to. :)
I think IE is late to the game. You might as well stick with the IE cycle that MS pushes out to Windows Update, that way you'll know that you have a stable platform. Stick with FF.

Ok... so I'll pass on the upgrade and stick with IE6 for the few times I need it :)

Nope, I'm on a basic stand alone machine with basic stuff.
With windows update you can choose which stuff to upgrade... then there's an option to "stop reminding about" stuff that you decline.

Ah OK, I was wondering why you didn't already have IE7.

;) I declined it when it was first offered, and check'd the box for "don't remind me again".

You should get it though, more secure plus you got to love the tabs. You're right that you still need it for a few MS-centric uses.

Yes, the tabs is the only thing I'd use on it as for as features go - beyond what IE6 has.

So have you gone to it? Any bugs or hassles?

None at all. At work we had IE6 for the longest time due to the custom ActiveX application here. It hampered our web testing since most of our visitors were using IE7 and we weren't. At home I upgraded to IE7 as soon as it was pushed out. Had to learn where some features were ("oh *that's* where Refresh and Stop are!") but other than that it's all good.

Haha about Refresh! I have IE7 on my laptop and had to do some googling to find it (F5) :)
