Our home was built @ 1940s, lived here for about 10 yrs and no problems, about 2 weeks ago we started to have plumbing probs, stool flushing slow and shower filling up, draining was real slow. When we flush we can hear drains. We then started to notice water at end of driveway, which is city property, had plumber come out and snake the toilet and he was able to go so far, he also marked were he THOUGHT the line went to so the city could dig up and put a clean out in, on our propery. The city came out and dug NO PIPES. Now there is still water at edge of driveway, have another plumber coming Thursday, if it is the sewer pipe should there not be a smell which there is not, also what should I do have city dig up driveway/city road

In my area, the sewer is your responsibility up to the main city sewer. This may not be a city problem. This means you may have to pay for tearing up and replacing street, sidewalk etc. I would suggest having a company that has sewer camera come in and scope your sewer. This way you will know exactly what kind of shape your line is in, and where the actuall problem is. At this point, I think this is your best bet. Please let us know what the next plumber says. And find out what your responsibility is in your area. Hopefully this is a city problem for you. But most likely its not. You will probably end up footing the bill for the entire job.

Get a plumber there that has a camera to look down the sewer line. Also there is a locater that can be run to the "clog" and it has a signal on its end. You find that signal with what looks like a metal detector. Its very accurate and can even tell you how deep the line is. The whole line run can be marked and flagged out.


Do this before anyone digs up anything. Now more guessing period.

So call a plumber that has this. They can even Viedo tape it as it goes down the line and all can watch on a screen as it happens.

Besides a SeeSnake camera, plumbers also can send down a small radio transmitter that will help find the exact location of the clog. They can and do reclaim the transmitter
