Whenever I wash the first load of clothes, I smell sewer gas. Is it coming from the drain?

Most likely drain or the washer manchine is the smell problem.

Does the dain off the washer manchine have a U bend at the bottom of the drain line for the washer. That U is a water trap to stop sewer gas.
