I can not remove the bolts connecting my tank to the toilet bowl because the nuts are rusted to the bolts... I thought of cutting the top off the bolt but its pretty flat headed and too tight of an area to fit conventional grinder into... help... :(

I usually use a reciprocating saw ( saw zall )
You can use a hack saw under the tank.
Curious what's wrong with the tank?

Worst scenario is to pull the toilet to cut tank bolts.

Don'tcha just hate it when that happens? Not every home owner owns a Saws-All so here's another way to remove those pesky tank bolts. Boat touched on the solution but allow me to expand on it.
Take a hacksaw blade, wrap a rag around one end as a handle and saw those suckers right out from under the tank. The bolts are brass so they should saw easy. When you purchase new tank bolts also pick up a new spud washer,(see image) and you'll be all set to reinstall your tank.
TIP: When you tighten the tank bolts do not crank them all the way down tightly.
Leave about 1/4 inch of play in the tank. This is so if someone leans back the play will absorb the strain. If the tank has no play all the strain will be placed on the china tank floor next to the bolts. Too much strain and the china will crack under the pressure. That';s the reason most toilet tanks will give a little. Good luck, tom

Thanks so much for all your help... so relieved I won't have to buy a new toilet. To answer books question... the tank leaks around the bolt and floods my bathroom... there is no visible crack in the porcelain but upon inspection the rubber washer had rotted and crumbled. Pieces of it were in the tank. Going to buy a hacksaw blade today as I don't own a sawz all thanks to Tom and Book
