My wife is in 9th month now. The scan report says the following:
BPD : 9.3 - 38 weeks,
HC : 32.9 - 37 weeks
AC : 29.0 - 33 weeks.
FL : 6.8 - 35 weeks
GA : 35 weeks 0 days.
EFBW : 2400 GMS + / - 15%

AC shows a discrepancy of 2 to 3 weeks as compared to other parameters. Placenta is anterior : Grade III Maturity, Liquor Adequate AF - 10.0 cms, 3 Vessel cord noted, Umblical artery Doppler is within normal limits, Foetal movements and Foetal cardiac activity appear normal.
Foetal cranium, spine, stomach, kidneys and bladder appear normal.

I just wanted to know is the kid normal. The doctor is saying that the abdomen is not as per the size of other parameters. The size of the abdomen is comparatively less when compared to other organs. Is this a serious issue. Please answer.

More than likely all is well... they are just expecting a baby estimated to be on the smaller side which is not necessarily a concern... for example, I was 1770 gms at term and perfectly healthy.

If they were terribly concerned about baby's growth and well being at this point, they would have scheduled a c-section.

Has your wife had any blood pressure concerns? This sometimes will account for a smaller abdomen measurement.
Since she is in the last few weeks, they will likely just keep an eye on how far she goes. Possibly doing a non-stress test at some point to see how baby is doing... particularily if she goes passed her due date. They also might suggest another scan in a couple of weeks to determine if there is any change.

While the abdomen may be measuring a bit smaller than the other measurements, at this point in her pregnancy they'd be more concerned if it was less than 31 cm. When it is measuring too small, or not gaining as it should, the concern becomes how efficient is the placenta and is baby get all the nutrients needed.

Try not to worry... they will keep a close watch and step in if there is a real concern.

Thanks for the reply. The reply sounded really a great peace for me and my wife. She is not under any stress and her blood pressure is also normal. The hospital at which we are looking is not hitech one; but at the same time it is not a medicore one too.

The doctor would have really intimated us if the baby was not normal at the beginning stage itself rright ?

Also, the doctor says it si normal and she will gain weight as and when the time passes to her Due date.

The date suggested for her was May 15th and today when we went for scan she said that Passing May 5 th itself is a great task and so be prepared.

My only concern is the Baby will not deformed right? Th

It may not have been an issue earlier on. Babies follow a general path in growth, but there will be individual differences along the way.

Sometimes, on a scan for example, they may be a bit behind or a bit ahead, and then on the next scan they are right on track. Sometimes they will have growth spurts just as they will after they are born.

I would think if there was any concern about baby's physical appearance, that would already have been mentioned by the doctor.

I can only guess at what the doctor might have meant about it being a great task to get passed May 5th. I assume she may be thinking baby will come a little earlier than the due date... which would not be unsual at all.

Or sometimes due dates will change slightly after a scan when they can see what baby looks like. The due date is only an estimate... very few babies are born on their actual due date.

It sounds as though all is well with this baby. There were no deformities mentioned on the ultrasound, so I'm pretty certain all is well here too.

Now, for the size of her belly.. It can depend on the position of her uterus. If her uterus is posterior then she will measure smaller. I am very good friends with a woman who never showed her entire 9 months and gave birth to a 9 pound baby boy.

Thanks again... That's all I wanted. I was just worried about the deformity conditions. If that is not there then it is OK to go with... Usually when such kind of issues happens, people around us will throw their own views and explanations.

One such view was : "The Mother has to be immediately hospitalized, She has to take a Second opinion, She has to be completely monitored and and the baby's growth will be tracked for the remaining dates till her due date.... These kinds of talks makes me just upset. I hope all this is not required right? "

This is not all required if what you posted about the ultrasound is correct.

Thanks for saying the Baby is well. Yes they were no deformities mentioned in the Ultrasound. Is it that if the placenta is anterior, the Uterus will be posterior?

I'm not a medical student here please. As per the report it says that her placenta is anterior.
Is there any specific reason for the belly to be small. Is is that she is not consuming good food or anything in particular, that could address this problem.

Anterior, in this case, means the placenta is near the front of her belly. No problems there, that's good. Better than a previa, which means it would completely or partially cover her cervix.

Again, as I said before, her belly could be small if the uterus is tilted toward her back.

There are numerous reasons the baby could be small. How big were you when you were born? How big was she?

Does she take her prenatal vitamins? Any health problems before the pregnancy? Does she drink? Smoke?

She dosen't drink and smoke. I was just 2.5 kgs and my wife was 3.2 kgs when born. She has taken her pills always at the right time. That's all I know... I will have to run after a medical student to undertsand this post...

I am a nurse, you don't need a medical student.

So you were 2.5 kgs, that equals 5 1/2 pounds, she was 3.2 kgs, that equals 7 pounds. Looks like genetics say you are going to have a small baby.
