    Can I file for abandoment?
My daughters father has not been in her life for 8 years,(she is almost 8),and I am planning on getting married next year.I was wondering if I can file for abandoment? He has nothing to do with her and barely pays child support. He lives in the same town as us but still makes no effort to be in her life.

What is this abandonment you speak of?

Abandonment is a legal term referring to leaving a child unattended.

What is it that you actually want?

Do you want you new husband to adopt her? Abandonment is a very misunderstood thing. You don't "file for abandonment". You MAY use abandonment as grounds for something else. But you have to defne what you ultimately want for us to help.

You should take out child support before you remarry it takes a long time though, abandoment states he has not SEEN or Given you any monies (no matter how little) in 30 days.
