Is FAC welfare? Within how long do you have to apply for unemployment in NY?
    Hi

I have a couple of questions.

Is Federal Additional Compensation considered welfare?

Is there a limit on days to apply for unemployment after you get laid off in NY?

    Hello couple:

Considered by whom? There is no legal distinction called "welfare", and there isn't any law that I know of that mentions the word "welfare". So, it might help if you told me why you're asking.

In terms of a time limit to apply, yes. You are eligible to collect based upon a past quarters earnings. If you wait too long, that past quarter will no longer apply. Plus, there is a waiting period AFTER you apply and before you get your first check.

My question to you is, why would you wait?

I am actually asking about FAC if it's considered welfare since I have applied for my husbands green card and I got laid off. And to let the process continue I know I shouldn't be collecting any welfare. So was confused if FAC is considered welfare by the government since the government is giving some extra compensation under FAC to the people who apply for unemployment.
