We are planning on putting an outside the house dry sump for the washing machine water 'ONLY'

The washing machine is in the basement, which means that the washing machine drain hose will need to flow UP about 5 feet (from the washing machine bottom where water exits... up to ground level and 'out' traveling about 10 feet from the house and into a dry sump. We're going to use all 2" PCV piping

QUESTION~ Will the water travel up that far (the 5 feet)?

Do I need a 'U' joint where the hose will be going into?

Lot of people has this set up. Yes, washer will pump 5' high w/o problem. Perhaps, you want to install check valve on discharge hose so water in the vertical pipe won't return to the washer every time after pump stops pumping. No trap is needed since washer would be below the discharge pipe. I would install another check valve on the 2" horizontal run to prevent bugs from crawling in.

Yes, your washer pump will lift that high. You do not need to trap the discharge line but , as Milo suggests, a washer hose check valve, (see image) should be installed in the hose close to the washer to prevent the hose from draining back into the washer when the pump stops. Good luck, tom
