    Sliding window: Drafts, Cleaning, Unsticking
Note: I apologize if this is the wrong category, I wasn't sure.

I have two sliding windows that are difficult to open and need their tracks cleaned. How would I properly do this and should I use lubricating grease for the track?

Also, I'm feeling a draft from the windows, can anyone explain how I can stop the drafts properly?

    Hi naturegirl

    Need more info please.

What is frame of window? Wood, plastic or metal?

What is approximate location of air leak?

Are both windows sliders or just one?

Please answer these and we will be able to help u

    Thanks

Metal frame, my mom use to keep a bird in this corner so I suspect cleaning is needed.
    Both windows are sliders
Air leak seems to be in the middle, where the windows touch when closed at the bottom. Also the side where the window opens and the draft is similar to if you don't close the window all the way.

Push inside window sash to center of opening. Grab on each side need bottom and lift. Tilt window toward u and lift out.

Repeat with outer sash if it also moves. This will clear track for cleaning.

Vacumn track and clean with damp sponge and mild detergent.

Check inside the uprights for debris.

Clean windows sashes while out and spray rollers with WD40.

Install window sashes, close and lock.

This should also cut down on draft. If not, the felt bumper at top and bottom of sash is missing.

    Good luck
