    Bank Lien
I am in Fairfax County Va. I owed back real estate tax on a property. Fairfax County took $6000 out of my checking account. I was given no notification other than a phone call 3 weeks ago telling me that I could set up a payment plan. I told them I would and next thing I know, $6000 is out of my account. Don't they have to give me some type of legal notification that they will do this? I am assuming a lien was placed on my account, but I don't really know for sure. Do they have to go through the court to do this and am I entitled to a hearing?

Government agencies can often seize assets without getting a judgement. You need to get a copy of the writ of execution (or whatever was served on the bank) and determine what law the attachment was executed under. Then you can check county ot state law to see what procedures the county has to go through to collect back taxes.
