I have 20 tall cottonwood trees straddling the property line. They need to be removed as they are close to my house. I believe they were planted by the neighbor years ago, but I presume that I need permission and, unless the neighbor wants to pay for a portion, that I will foot the bill.

Definitely talk it over with the tree's owner before doing anything. If you are willing to pay for the removal of the trees have you even gotten any estimates for this work as removing trees CAN be frightfully expensive and you could be looking at a charge of $500+ per tree to properly take down and grind the stump.

Is it possible for you to just pay to have them properly pruned back instead of removing them? This would be far less expensive and the tree owner may go for that instead of having them totally removed.
