My boyfriend has a drinking problem, we have been involved for almost 9 months in the beginning of this year... he quit alcohol for 2 months becoz he wanted to ask me out... I then agreed to go out with him... about 2 months into our relationship he started drinking again but not heavy... about a month ago he was back to his old self... drinking every night... he would end up getting drunk and not knowing what he said the next morning.

After this weekend he has decided that he needs to get his life in order and stop drinking... I am trying hard to encourage him to stop and have managed to obtain a script for ANTI BOOZE tablets for him to start taking.

I would appreciated any information regarding these tablets and what sort of support I should be giving to my boyfriend.

I don't know of any "anti booze" tablets, as you describe them. Perhaps you are talking about a prescription for antabuse? As for support, I would suggest you connect with Al-Anon, which is a 12-step fellowship for family and friends of alcoholics. That may be a very enlightening experience for you.

Alcoholism is viewed as a disease that, as far as we know, is only arrested by 100% abstention. If your boyfriend cannot maintain sobriety over time, then he might want to seek the help of support groups, one of which is Alcoholics Anonymous. I would caution you about such a thing as "too much" support --- it is his disease and what he chooses to do about it needs to be in the forefront. Pay attention to what he does, not what he says and don't buy into the victim aspect of it, if he happens to be playing up that angle. There is a way out and he has to be the one to take that initiative. I hope that helps you clarify things a bit and thanks for posting your question here.

There is a pill that is used for something other than alcoholism, however, when given to the alcoholic causes severe diarrhea, stomach cramps, and vomiting. But it is only used while in rehab because they must monitor the level in the blood.

My question and concern would be how you obtained a script for antabuse? As I remember he must be under a doctors care and monitored closely bt a physician. As good intentioned as you appear to be stay away from the shortcuts or self help and encourage him into a 12 step program. Al-Anon would also give you support to understand the role you play in his recovery.
