Nobody seems to know the difference between hydrocodone(vicodin) and oxycodone(percocet) besides hydrocodone is a class 3, and oxycodone is a class 2, and that oxycodone is stronger then hydrocodone
vicodin is a mix of hydrocodone bitartrate and tylenol and Percoset is a mix of hydrocodone hydrochloride and Tylenol. Hydrocodone hydrochloride is Oxycontin.
They are both opiate derivativives and available in different strengths.
The biggest difference seems to be peaking of relief. Vicodin peaks in about 1.5 hrs and Hydrocodone hydrochloride usually has a more of a sustained release. More like 12 hours.
Vicodin seems to be better at managing chronic pain whereas percoset is a bit better at managing acute pain.
More like 6 hours of relief.
Is that what you want to know?
Kind of but ill be honest with you,my dr.prescribes me percocet 10/325,but the night before I had to see my dr, my brother and I went to the casino 35miles from home and I 4got my meds, so I took 2 vicodin 5/500 from my brother, when I saw my dr on Thursday at 10a.m. he wanted me to take a ua,I'm worried that he will be able to tell the difference from the vicodin and the percocet. WHAT DO YOU THINK??
I don't think you should worry if your doc prescribed percocet and you took vicodin instead. What should matter is if the medicine you took worked or not!
I doubt it. What is it prescribed for?
Kind of keepitsimplestupid...
I currently am taking percocet (10/325)and well the night before I saw my doctor ,MY brother and I went to the casino 35 miles from home, and I for the first time forgot my meds,so I took 2 of my brothers vicodin (5/500) at around 6:30P.M. the next day at 10A.M. I saw my dr and he wanted me to take a ua, I am a little nervous that he might be able to tell the difference between the vicodin and the percocet , what do you think??
10 years ago I had an on the job injury, I've had 3 major surgeries at the age of 22, I got L5S1 fused and my doctor said there was minimul damage to the disc above the one I got fused, now the mri shows that the disc is way worse, I'm sceptical about getting another sugery cause the last one made the pain even worse, I was on the fentanyl patch, very dangerous pain killer, when I would take showers iand the patch would get warm water on it,it would release a higher dose so I had to get off it, but out of all the pain killers I've been on, the patch helped the best
You should have kept it in the same thread. If I were you I would have mentioned exactly what you said to the doc.
A nice doc wouldn't bust your brother on it.
If they do the analysis with a GC (Gas Chromatagraph), then they could tell the difference.
The detection limits could be vastly different.
Not sure why you have to have the UA.
Please do not open new threads for and to deal with the same issue, some have been merged.
The fenatayl patch probably would work the best.
I can see why he is prescribing Percoset, but Vicodin is usually the choice.
How about asking for Vicodin (his choice of strength) and a Lidoderm patch (Much safer) with hydromorphone as a rescue medication.
Also ask about using Soma which is a muscle relaxant.
The reason why he does ua's to his patients,is he wants to make sure none of his patients r taking any illegal drugs, like heroin,methamphetamines,cocaine,marijuana,etc... and to make sure his patients are actually taking the medicine he is prescribing and not selling them, does this sound like a basic ua or does is sound like he would do a gas chromatagraph??
It looks like it's differentiateable.

OK, so they use a Mass spec. Sometimes Mass specs are combined with GC's anyway.
Percocet is a different drug than vicodin, though it is often thought to be the same as vicodin.
Percocet is oxycodone hydrochloride with acetaminophen(tyenol)
vicodin is hydrocodone bitartrate with acetminophen. They are both narcotic analgesics and both contain acetaminophen and unfortunately they are both abused by people that are seeking the euphoric effect they seek but that is as far as they are alike. Their pharmaceutical make up is different.
I have explained this to so many people.Hydrocodone and codeine is also confused as the same drug but it is not.
As far as your doctor being able to tell by a drug test which is in your system don't worry. The drug test will just check to see if you have opiate medication in your system which it will show that and will probably check to see if you have Marijuana, cocaine or any other illegal drugs.
