I have started a remodeling job in my house. I am converting some attic space into a bedroom. The space had a light switched a bare bulb light fixture in it, before I started the job, that was working fine. About halfway through the job the bulb blew. When I replaced it the light changed brightness several times and then blew shortly thereafter. This morning the light bulb blew when I turned on the switch. There are other lights on the circuit that are not effected. The circuit breaker is not switching off. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening? Thanks

What changes if any did you make to that circuit, did you add more lights to that switch? You mention other lights on circuit not effected? What does that mean? More then one fixture is turned on by that same switch and they are OK? Did you add additional lights to that original bare bulb fixture or were they there before you started the job? Need to know more, what changes did you make if any?

Sounds like a bad/open neutral.

There are two other bare bulb fixtures on the circuit that are switched on with the single switch and they are okay. I previously added some outlets on this circuit, but that was several months ago and this problem just started.

My guess is that your creating a large amout of vibration and the filiment is fusing together, usually with the lamp getting brighter.

It will be brighter for a while but the lamp will blow when the bulb is turned on after the filament cools.
