I'm married with one child make about 25,000 a year gross income and have been claming 1 on my w-4 and my wife dosen't work but I want to get back more from each paycheck so I want to change it to 2 is that a good ideal or should I claim more than that or just stay at 1.

When I was married with one child I claimed 3 on my, one for each. There is a work sheet on the form that helps you know what to claim

Do you find that you get a big tax refund each year? If so, then you should indeed increase the number of allowances on your W4. The IRS instructions say that a married person filing jointly where there's only 1 wage earner and 1 child should typically claim 4 allowances ( 1 for yourself, 1 for being married and spouse doesn't work, 1 for your spouse, and 1 for your child).
