I am in the process of replacing my basement shower. I consequently need to move my shower drain by 13"

I'm new to DIY plumbing and am looking for some guidance or tips on the whole process.

Specifically,

1. Is there any particular "right way" to remove the cement surrounding the pipe
2. The drain pipe is a lead pipe: how do I attach new abs piping to this old lead pipe?
3. Do I have to re-pour cement where I removed it or can I simply fill the hole with sand or gravel?

Any other general tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

With lead pipe? VERY CAREFULLY! Use a cement saw and pry the pieces out instead of hammering.

When I saw that I thought Uh-uh! Lead pipes aren't easy to work with. Ordinarily I would suggest taking up the floor and replacing with PVC. But they do make a UTC Joiner Transition Coupling, (see image) that will transition from lead to PVC. Check it out at; Philmac - Products - UTC® Transition Fittings "pipe to pipe"

Fill the hole with soil and patch with 2 inche thick cement.
The best advice would to be very careful working with lead pipe. You couldn't have picked any pipe material that's more fragile. Good luck, Tom
