I just moved to this location. When water is being used the unit switch goes on and off rapidly. I reset the on-off to 40-60 and it still does the rapid movement from on and off. Also, how do you check to see if the bladder is ruptured and how can you check the air in the tank? Can you use an air gauge that you would use on your car tires? Is there anything else I can check to get it to operate properly. I have the same unit in another home and it works fine. The well pump is on 220 volt circuit.

There are several ways to test a bladder pressure tank. (1) Open the snifter valve on top of the tank. If water comes out tank's faulty, **OR** (2) Take a metal object and start at the bottom of the tank and start tapping. You should hear a "clunk" until you get about half way up the tank. Then you should hear a "clank".
If you hear the same noise all the way up the tank then it's faulty.
In both cases if it fails (1) and(2) the tank must be replaced

The power must be off and the pressure bled off by opening a cold water faucet. You use a tire gage and a tire air pump to set the bladder tank pressure 2 PSI under the cut in point of the pump control box.
Let me explain the function of a bladder tank. Pressure and bladder tanks provide a air cushion that produces water pressure in your system so your pump doesn't kick on every time you draw a glass of water. A bladder tank has a neoprene membrane in the center. As the pump puts water into the bottom half of the bladder tank the membrane compresses the air in the top half. When the pressure reaches the cut off point in the control box the pump shuts down. However you still have between 40 to 50 pounds of pressure pushing the water out to your system. As the pressure drops in the tank when you make a draw the pump kicks on and everything starts over again. More quesations? I'm as close as a click. Regards Tom

Follow toms great advice. Most likely, with the pressure switch opening and closing rapidly as you say, you will find that your tank is indeed bad(ruptured bladder).

First, Thanks Tom for the info you sent. My question, how can you tell the gallon capacity of the tank? The tank is 27 inches high and 16 inches wide. I don't see any markings on the tank to determine the gallon size.

Who cares? You're not going to fill it anyhow. This isn't a pressure tank where volume counts. This's a bladder tank. Install it, set the correct pressure and forget it. If you have any more posts please post them on this thread instead of starting a new thread. I have to go back and locate and merge them . Thanks, Tom

I agree with Tom. This isn't a holding tank, therefore gallon capacity doesn't matter(which is why most pressure tanks don't give a gallon rating) IF system worked fine up till now, I would replace tank with same size tank. However, it won't hurt anything to install a larger tank, but most likely won't help any either, unless you are using an extremely large amount of water at any given time. V60 and v100 are most common tanks for residential use. I would say stick with the v60.

I don't have the same problem, but I think I found my answer from the discussion. My AO Smith Aquatic Water system tank Model V60 sprung a link and is spraying water out the side. Looks like it needs to be replaced. If the same model is available, is that the best choice? It was installed in 1994 at a vacation cottage in Maine. The system is drained in the winter when not in use.
