Hello! Thanks for reading this! I'm going to put a washer on the second floor of a home and tie it in to the bathroom sink upstairs on the same wall opposite side of the washer. It's a newer home around 4 years old. I just need to know how to tie in the washer connections to the existing hot and cold lines from the sink and also how to tie in the drain line from the washer into the drain line of the sink. I may just run the drain line into the sink if the other is too difficult. Also, is there any suggestions about how I might minimize the damage to the subfloor and first floor in case of a water leak? Thanks for your help!

You can not tie a washer drain to a bathroom sink, its drain line is too small, 1 1/4" and you need at least 2". You must tie to a shower drain or toilet drain, not even a tub drain is large enough.

As Ballenberg1 correctly stated, your problem will be drain hook up. Water connecting to the sink is fine. You will have to open your wall and explore where your plumbing pipes of appropriate size for w/m are . If you post a sketch of your floor lay-out, we could be more precise in our suggestions. Milo and I both forgot to address your eventual leak problem. Left in place long enough most washers will eventually leak so a pan under the washer is advise for above grade installation. However the pan alone can only catch a few gallons of water, if you want more protection than that the pan must be plumbed to a drain. That hole in your wall just got larger.

Okay, thanks... I'll see if we can tie into the shower drain without much of a problem. The room we are putting the washer in is not finished and most of the plumbing is accessible easily. I appreciate the info about the pan as well. Thank You!
