    Letter from Legal Office
I just received a letter from a law office stating that I needed to pay a credit card debt that I thought had been charged off after my divorce a few years ago. It stated that I could receive a judgement if I do not respond. What happens when there is a judgement? What can they do to me besides ruin my credit for 7-10 years (which it is already ruined)? They also used my former married name... does that go in my favor at all?

A charge off is simply a tax maneuver by a creditor. It has no affect your responsibility to pay the debt.

I would suggest browsing in this and the Bankruptcy & Debt forums. There are dozens of threads that deal with similar situations. You should be able to figure out what to do. If you have any more specific questions after doing so, feel free to ask.
