    Hypothyroidism
I am 34 years old and have both of my sides of my thyroid removed in two separate surgerys over the past month. I was diagnosed with Hashimotos disease and now am "without thyroid" I just went through my radiation last week and now have been given a Clean bill of health, :) However, I have put on five pounds, my stomach is bloated 24-7 and my energy level is at about a 5. I have incorporated a good diet, but need to find out, am I now headed down hill? I have been 115 lbs all through my life, so adding 5 lbs is a big deal to me. What can I do to increase my energy level as well as keep my weight at a minimum, or am I now going to start to have NO Metabolism after all of this.. . Still on synthroid in Virginia.

My mother had her thyroid removed at age 40 and was diagnosed Synthroid, which she has taken for 40 years. At the right level, this drug has compensated for her lack of thyroid. My niece was diagnosed with autoimmune related hypothyroidism and took Cytomel (rather than Synthroid) to compensate for her underproduction of T4/T3. I assume those drugs (alone or in combination) would benefit you too--but surely your doctors know that, right?
