I have 3 way switches (2 wall switches) in my living room operating 1 ceiling fan/light. I bought a remote kit for a new ceiling fan and want to know how to wire it. It comes from the factory for a 2 way. There is a switch unit that goes in the wall to adjust for low/med/high for the fan as well as an off button and a light switch that if held down will dim the light to varying degrees. Also comes with a wireless remote that is operable within 40 feet of the fan.

Ok, your 2 switches that control the old fan, is it one for the light and one for the fan, or both for the unit together?

The switch controls both I believe. The lighting kit was never wired in so You had to do it manually(pull string). But the Fan operated from both switches. The fan came with the home, but did not have lighting kits when the home was built. I added the lighting kits after the fact, but just disabled the power to the unit and added the light kit to be safe. If this helps, there is a Black, Red, white and copper(ground) wire (4 wires) coming from the ceiling once I removed everything except the bracket that holds the weight of the fan/lighting fixture. One switch on the wall has one black wire and 2 red wires with a ground wire(4 wires) the other switch has 1 red wire and 2 black wires with a ground wire (4 wires). Ok it will be complicated to wire the wall control in place since you have a 3 way switch setup. Either one switch will have to be disabled, you will have to order a second switch, OR just forgo the wall switch and use the remote.

How was the old fan connected at the ceiling?
