    Dryer thermostat
My whirlpool dryer (ler5636eq3) worked but it wouldn't put out heat. It ended up being the small thermostat above the heating element. The dryer ran fine after that for 2 loads then the thermostat blew again. What could be causing the thermostat to blow I thought maybe the timer is shorting it out. HELP!!
    Thanks pookeymama

Pookeymamsa- it sounds like you have a electrical short in the heating element or the centrifugal switch:: to test the heating element for grounding or for open circuit; {you will need a volt-ohm meter to make a couple tests; if you don't have one ,you can pick one up at lowe's or the home depot <in the electrical dept> for about $10.00 dollars ; be sure to get one that you could test at least 250 volts a/c power ;; on the tests im going to have you to do <the power to the dryer will be turned off at the breaker or thr dryer unplugged from the wall:: ok to start the tests- ; power off_ pull the dryer out from the wall ,remove the back panel cover . Set aside ;{ set the volt ohm meter to rx1 scale}find the heating element< #1 remove both elect> wires comeing to it and insert the meter probs into heater terminals:: if the meter reads {between 8 and 20 ohms the heater is good , if the meter reads higher , then it is defective, replace; ;now to test the heater for being grounded: disconnect the wires < insert one prob into the heater terminal< and touch the other prob to the heater duct< if the meter reads high< heater is ok <if the meter needle swings toward low, the heater is grounded ,replace;; to test the over heat protectors : disconnect one of the wires< clip the meter probs to the wire terminals< if the meter reads { zero-ohms } the protector is good <if it reads high then the protector is defective : note - some have more then one protector, check the air ouy let duct for another one :: note on some the heat protector has three wires on them <on this kind you clip your meter probs to the two out side terminals < check is the same ;; ifg you don't find the trouble at these places ,come back on to this post and holler; ; and we will go to the other possiblies; what i have given you is the most probable;; but if i have helped -please rate my answers in the orange box below :: have a great day tomorrow and god bless:: f.b.e.
