write a balance equation, as identify each type of reaction?
When solid sodium nitrate is heated, solid sodium nitrate and oxygen gas are produced.

Solid bismuth(III) oxide and solid carbon react to form bismuth metal carbon monoxide gas.

All you need to do is look up the chemical formula for sodium nitrate, sodium nitrite, and oxygen (note nitrite in the product -- the products and reactants will always be different).

sodium nitrate: Let me google that for you
sodium nitrite: Let me google that for you
oxygen: Let me google that for you

Then put the reactant on the left and the products on the right. Then balance the equation.

For the second one, you simply need the formula for bismuth(III) oxide, carbon (trivial), bismuth (trivial) and carbon monoxide

Bismuth(III) oxide: Let me google that for you
    C
    Bi
Carbon Monoxide: Let me google that for you

Once you have the equation, simply balance it.

As for the type of equation, the first one is a decomposition reaction. It might also be referred to as a disproportionation reaction. The second one is an oxidation reduction reaction.
