Urgent: Changing status from F-1 to F-2
Hi, I am a U.S. citizen and is attending college here in U.S. but I have a cousin that came from Thailand as a exchange student on the status of F-1. His F-1 will expire this July and would like to continue another high school in Ames, IA to live with me. I wonder if there is anyway I could apply his for F-2 or do anything to have him continue his education. If you have any advice please let us know. Thank you so much for your time!

Visa F-1 for exchange students has limit up to 12 months and cannot be extended, plus public schools cannot issue I-20 for foreign student except exchange students.

If your cousin wants to continue his study in US, he may do so by attending private schools and applies as F-1.

F-2 visa can be issued to spouse and dependent of F-1 holder only. Not apply in this case.
