    But many families consider the divorced husband/wife extended family in some cases.

    Realationships created by marriage are not dissolved by divorce. Spouse yes,uncle louie no, yes it your choice but as far as taxes and dependents go your exspouse's uncle cousin niece whatever could still come and live with you and be claimed as a dependent legally.federal law clearly states this. i.e. dependent relationship test.
