I have a Yard King Performance riding lawn mower with 10 hp briggs engine, it run for about 5 minutes and seems to get very hot and shuts down. Not sure what to check for that is causing it to get hot. I just need to know what I can check to see what's causing it to get very hot.

One of the most common reasons for an engine to get hot is that the engine is not clean. There is often grass or mouse nestings under the engine cover where the cooling fins are. You should take the metal cover off the top of the motor and make sure it is clean under it. It's pretty simple to do this. There are only four bolts holding the engine cover on along with a couple small screws in the dipstick tube and starter cover.

Try this and see what happens..
