    Student Loan F1 Student
    Hi
I am on my OPT. I am on my F1 Visa. I have taken a Student loan in India for my Masters, and I have paid off about 5000 dollars in 2008.
Can I get a student Loan Deduction on this amount. If yes What are the documents that I need to submit.

    Thanks
    Kiran

Student loan payment is not deductible for residents or nonresidents.

While the student loan payment itself is not deductible, the interest on the loan IS deductible whether you file as a resident or non-resident alien.

The loan just needs to be used exclusively for tuition and allowable fees.
