Getting my ex to sign over his rights and how to do that?
I have a 16month old daughter and her father has just started seeing her because he was court ordered to do so. He isn't paying support yet but that will be in place very soon, and this all started because my daughter is on medical assistance through the state of MN. If it was up to me I would have never contacted him and I would rather him not be involved in her life. When we broke up he was dealing drugs and using them as well and as far as I know he could still be doing so. It worries me to think that at some point he could expose her to that lifestyle. As of right now he is getting supervised visits for 4 months but after that he can be alone with her and that scares me so much. I fell so conflicted and I just don't know what to do, and with being on medical assistance I feel there is little I can do. So my question or questions are can he sign away his rights or will the state fight that because my daughter is on assistance and if he does will that mean he doesn't have to pay anything. Also I would like to talk to him about this and see how he feels about him giving up his rights and asking him about drug dealing but should I? So if anyone that knows something about giving up rights and my situation or anyone that can give me any advice I would love that. Thank you so much for taking your time to read this!

No he can't sign his rights away. Only a court can terminate rights and I see no reason for the court to do so.

Your best bet is to get married and have your husband adopt the child.
