    Deductibility Hope Credit
Spouse has acquired her Masters, in 2008. At the beginning of 2008, she had completed one and a quarter of her time toward the degree. She has never attended a four year college.

Tax returns are filed on a joint basis. No Hope Credit was ever taken in past years as it was advantageous tax-wise to use the Lifetime, but 2008 is an exception.

The instructions for Hope credit uses the word "generally" which would indicate their might be exceptions to the general rule. I feel this is an exception and should be allowed. Am I correct?
