I have an electrical question. My main panel in the house is maxed out with breakers, my breakers are the 1inch thick ones, can I get the breakers that are 1/2 inch thick and double up a few breakers to give me some space? Then I want to run a line to my garage for a 220volt set up. What kind of line (number) do I have to use? And should I run that to a sub or pony panel in the garage? Then on the pony panel, do I just get 220v breaker, (what kind breaker and what amp do you recommend?) put them in. THen what kind(number) line do I need to run for a Mig welder that is 220volt? Is this possible and is it safe to code?

You can use mini-breakers, duplex breakers, piggy back breakers, I've heard them called by many names, can be used to save some space in a smaller panel.
As far as wire size for a 220V, I would run 10 gauge if it were me and THHN, not solid core and yes I would run it to a sub-panel, at the very least a fused disconnect.
As far as breaker size that will depend on your welder. It should list either a max fuse protection or minimum ampacity on the name plate.
Is it possible? Yes. Is it code? That would depend on your municipalities local electrical code. Might want to consider contracting this job out to an electrician.
